When should I enable backup?

Backup can be enabled either when eDiscovery is not available or is running simultaneously. However, unlike eDiscovery, email Backup will only retain the deleted mails of the employees in the Backup portal. The administrator can recover them from the backup portal back to the employee’s accounts.

Make sure to set proper retention and filter rules when both eDiscovery and Backup are enabled simultaneously otherwise it may unduly increase your storage needs.
