Search Engine Optimization for Help Center

Search Engine Optimization for Help Center

Your Help Center content, viz. articles and community posts, should be made accessible for both your customers and search engines to understand. You simply can’t stop with having a perfect Help Center with great content. Search engines such as Google should be able to crawl your Help Center and its content in their search results. One straightforward way to garner attention from search engines is to use meta tags. The meta tags will give search engines instructions on what your Help Center is about and how they should treat it.

As an administrator, you can provide meta attributes for individual pages such as the Help Center home page, KB home page, etc. The meta attributes will include the title, meta description, and meta keywords. The attributes are as explained below:
  • Meta Title: The text you'll see on the browser tab when accessing different pages of your Help Center. It is also the brief description of a page that appears in search results.
  • Meta Description: A brief description of your Help Center.
  • Meta Keywords: Enter a series of keywords you deem relevant to your Help Center.
  • 'NoIndex' and 'NoFollow': Check this option to suggest search engines (most notably Google) not to index or follow any links on your Help Center. It is useful when you are testing and want to make your Help Center pages (articles, community posts, etc.,) invisible to search engines, indexing robots, and web page crawlers.

SEO for Multilingual Help Centers
Multilingual SEO is the act of optimizing your help center content for different languages so that users in other countries can seek help through organic search. When you set up a multi-language help center, you must ensure that it's not just the knowledge articles that are translated. Your meta attributes are also crucial because they will help you rank better for the localized languages you're targeting. For example, a keyword in the default language of your help center might not necessarily be the same for your translated version, or much worse, it is not even the keyword your potential users might search when they look around for help.

Keeping this in mind, Zoho Desk allows you to enter meta attributes both for the default and other supported languages of your help center. All you need to do is select the required help center page (e.g., Community Home Page), choose the supported language, and enter the translated set of meta attributes in them.

Notes:
  1. The option to enter language-specific meta attributes is available only when you've enabled the Multilingual feature.
  2. If there is no meta attribute entered for a language, Zoho Desk will display the attribute of the default language.

To enter the SEO attributes:

  1. Click the Setup icon (  ) in the top bar.
  2. Click Help Center under the Channels menu.
  3. Select the Help Center for which you want to add SEO attributes.
  4. Click SEO under the Help Center sub-menu.
  5. On the SEO page, do the following:
    1. Select the page for which you wish to add meta attributes.
    2. Select the Help Center language from the drop-down menu.
You can add language-specific meta attributes in a multi-lingual Help Center.

    3. Enter the attributes such as TitleMeta Description, and Meta Keywords.
    4. Select the Apply these meta tag values to all pages checkbox to apply the meta attributes to all pages.
You can leave this unchecked if you want to add different meta tags for each page.
    5. Select the NoIndex and NoFollow checkbox, if required.
  6. Click Save.
