Optimize your Knowledge Base for Search Engines

Optimize your Knowledge Base for Search Engines

The knowledge base comes with an inbuilt search function that helps your customers and agents to find solutions. However, the primary objective of creating KBase articles is to have them crawled by the other search engines. This way, your customers can quickly find their solutions even without accessing your Help Center. So, your primary goal is to have your KBase rise the ranks to the top of search-engine results. Read on to know more about writing content that ranks and wins search engine visitors.

Content
"Content is king" and this has reverberated ever since. Your knowledge base content includes the copy, images, video embeds, and attachments. The two most important aspects of the content are quality and quantity. You must make sure that there are no typos that embarrass your readers. Also, the content should be complete, consistent and must cover the broad spectrum of the issue. This ensures the quality of your content.

Now coming to quantity, it is the number of keywords you have used in an article. You need to identify a series of keywords you deem relevant to the article and employ the same across your content. But do not stuff the article with keywords unless they are required in context. Search engines like Google will penalize your site if they find you stuffing irrelevant and inappropriate keywords.

Meta Tags
There are three major types of meta tags that you are required to add while creating an article. Some are not as useful as they once were, but their importance is still present as the search engine robots validate their relativity to your content.
  • Meta Title
  • Meta Description
  • Meta Keywords

The meta title is the text displayed in search engine listings. This is different from the subject of an article. Nevertheless, choose a title that best describes the content of your article. It should be compelling enough for users to click the link and read through it. The meta description tag is simply your article's summary, and it should reveal what it is all about. A compelling description will entice searchers to click on your article from the search engine results page. Finally, the meta keywords are the series of keywords that are used in the article. The keywords, though, have been beneficial, don't make much sense these days since the major search engines no longer use them in their ranking process.

Navigation and Site Map
Structure the content of your website so that your customers can have a seamless navigation across your knowledge base. To ensure a predictable navigation, you must consider how users look for information and then structure the content in a way that best aligns with those preferences. Besides navigation, you must create a standard XML sitemap and submit it to Google and other search engines for indexing your web pages. This is to tell the search engines, the pages they need crawl alongside the hierarchy of site content.

Hope these options will help you for improving search results so that your users find the relevant answers to their questions.
