Add and verify a domain

Add and verify a domain

To host your users' mailboxes using Zoho Mail (which is a part of your Zoho One subscription), you need to add and verify your domain in the Zoho One admin panel. Once you have verified your domain and enabled mail hosting, you can:
  1. Add users with custom domain-based email addresses
  2. Create mailboxes for users
  3. Add domain-based aliases for users
You can verify your domain if you have hosted it with a domain hosting service (for example: GoDaddy, Hostinger, Bluehost). There are three methods with which you can verify your domain in Zoho One:
  1. Adding a TXT record in your domain host
  2. Adding a CNAME record in your domain host
  3. Uploading an HTML file to your website
To verify your domain using the HTML method, you need to have set up web hosting for that domain as well.

Steps to add and verify a domain

  1. Sign in to Zoho One, then click Directory in the left menu.
  2. Go to Domains, then click Add Domain.
  3. Enter the domain name, then click Add.
  4. Hover over the added domain, then click Verify Domain.
  5. Choose one of the methods to verify your domain: TXT CNAME HTML.
Note: If you face any issue performing the steps in your domain host, consult their help documents or their support team.
    1. Add a TXT/CNAME record in your domain host:
      1. Copy the values provided in the table.
      2. Sign in to your domain host.
      3. Go to the DNS settings page of your domain, then go to the DNS records page.
      4. Locate the option to add TXT/CNAME records.
      5. To add a TXT record:
        1. In the Host Alias TXT field, enter ' ' or leave it blank. (Note: If you are verifying a subdomain, enter the subdomain name)
        2. In the Value Points to Destination field, paste the copied hash code from Zoho One.
        To add a CNAME record:
        1. In the Host Alias CNAME field, paste the copied value from the Name field in Zoho One.
        2. In the Value Points to Destination field, paste the copied value from the Values field in Zoho One.
      6. In the TTL field, set TTL to the minimum possible value recommended by your domain host.
      7. Save the record, then wait for an hour or two for the values to propagate.
Info: To check whether the added records (TXT/CNAME) are propagated, you can use Toolkit by Zoho Mail, which is a tool for finding information about the DNS records that are added for your domain.
    2. Upload an HTML file to your website:
      1. Download the HTML file– zoho-domain-verification.html.
      2. Sign in to your domain's web host.
      3. Access the root directory of your website. The root directory is the top-level folder where your website's files are stored, and it's usually named public_htmlwww, or wwwroot.
      4. Upload the HTML file directly to the root directory, such that the file path is http://<your domain>/zoho-domain-verification.html.
      5. Confirm that the file has been added by visiting http://<your domain>/zoho-domain-verification.html. You should be able to view a unique string of numbers.
  6. Return to the domain verification page in Zoho One, then click Verify.
If you are unable to verify your domain, refer to our troubleshooting guide.
